About.com Buying ConsumerSearch.com For 33 Million Dollars

May 7, 2007 – 5:45 pm

About.com (Parent company, The New York Times) recently announced that they were buying Consumersearch.com, a consumer shopping directory for 33 million dollars.

Consumersearch.com is a meta search engine that spiders the web (like Google) to find relevant reviews and information on products, services and other content. It generates revenue from Google adsense and what appears to be Chitika.

There was no word on how exactly how About.com is looking to utilize the power of Consumer Search, but chances are it will be used to compliment the current offerings at About.com

Consumer Search has 6 employees and no earnings were reported.

Do you think this partnership is a good match?
