Adding A Blog To An Existing Website
April 10, 2007 – 1:30 pmAdding a blog to an existing website is almost always a good idea, but you need to keep a few key concepts in mind. A blog is like a child or pet. You can’t just forget about your blog one day, or it will shrivel up and die. This means you’re committing to a great deal of additional work if you add a blog to your website. You’ll have to constantly look for news and you’ll end up adding a lot of content.
This might be worth it to you, if you have a clear cut strategy. But if you have unrealistic expectations you’ll find your blogging career to be a short one. Blogs are a ton of work, but the do offer some real advantages. Among them:
- Fresh content attracts new visitors - the lifeblood of any website
- Blogs tend to add credibility to your website because visitors can see you’re interested in the field and are updating
- Blogs give people a reason to come back to your website and to participate
All in all, I think adding a blog to a website is a great idea. Just outline your plans carefully and make sure you stay on-topic with your website’s subject matter. If you update constantly, the rewards in new visitors will be worth it.

Couldn’t agree with you more on that first paragraph. I’ve written about this many times… and I have to admit, because of a few things recently have fallen a victim to infrequent posts.
