MLK Quotes

Today is the day that 40 years ago Martin Luther King was assassinated on the balcony at the Lorraine Hotel.

MLK had a vision – and from that vision made many quotable quotes. Here are a few MLK quotes to honor this man four decades later.

  • “A nation or civilization that continues to produce soft-minded men purchases its own spiritual death on the installment plan.”

  • “All labor that uplifts humanity has dignity and importance and should be undertaken with painstaking excellence.”
  • An individual has not started living until he can rise above the narrow confines of his individualistic concerns to the broader concerns of all humanity.

Alain Robert Scales Brazil Tower

Alain Robert, affectionately nicknamed Spiderman has done it again. Alain scaled a 42-floor building with his bare hands in Sao Paulo, Brazil while nearly 2,000 onlookers watched.

He used no safety equipment to crawl down (and reclimb) the 495-foot Edificio Italia, one of the tallest buildings in the city.

Alain Robert wasn’t granted permission to climb the building and was detained by police after the stunt.

Mr. Robert is 45 years old and has climbed 70 buildings including the Eiffel Tower, the Sears Tower and the Empire State Building.

Just when you thought there were no Superheroes left, Alain Robert proves otherwise.

Power Outage In San Francisco Takes Websites Offline

Sporadic power outages in San Francisco on Tuesday brought down a number of popular websites.

Craigslist, Typepad, Secondlife and Technorati were among the sites that went offline when power at a large data center failed.

The power outage affected around 400,000 businesses and individuals and the lights went back on at around 3:30 PST.

A spokesperson for PG&E said a fault in their underground electric system was to blame and that breakers that didn’t shut down properly caused fluctuations which caused the power outages.

DoubleClick To Offer New Advertising Exchange

Doubleclick recently announced that they were going to launch a new advertising exchange that will allow buyers and sellers of digital advertisements to connect in the third quarter of 2007.

This new advertising system is currently being tested in the United States and is expected to be
available globally by the end of 2007.

It should be interesting to see what they have to offer for advertisers and publishers in the months to come.

Google To Sell Advertising On Echostar

Leading search engine Google continues their foray into advertising, teaming up with Echostar, a company that provides satellite TV services. Under the agreement, Google will sell and help select ads to run to their network of 13.1 million subscribers.

“This has a much better chance of getting the market excited” than Google’s foray into radio and print, said Kevin Lee, executive chairman for Did-It Search Marketing, which helps manage online advertising campaigns.

To become a significant force in TV advertising, Google still needs to broaden its reach by working out similar distribution arrangements with other cable and satellite providers, said Chris Geraci, U.S. director of national TV at advertising agency OMD.

“This is a nice building block, but it’s not enough to change the landscape,” Geraci said.

What are your thoughts on Google extending their advertising product into TV? Does this move in to traditional style media concern you?

Reasons Why Links Are Still Important

Links are still the lifeblood of the internet and should be an important part of your internet strategy when building a website.

Why are links important?

* Links from other websites can provide visitors to your website. A link from a related or themed website can can pre-qualify them as someone that is interested in your product, service or informational website. A close match can mean better conversion rates for you.

* Having a number of links from websites that are already indexed in the major search engines can help bring in spiders (also known as webcrawlers) to index your website. Although there are no guarantees for ranking, the webcrawlers will help organize your websites information in their search indexes at some point in time.

* Word of mouth marketing works. Whenever you get a link from another website it’s like getting a personal referral from the site that linked to you. The more personal referrals you get, the better.

There are many ways to get links. You can submit your website to directories, exchange links with other webmasters or submit your articles to social networking websites like Digg, Thumbd.net or Sootle.com.

I hope that this helps explain why links are still important and gave you enough resources to get your link building campaign started!

Google Works To Provide More Privacy Regarding Search Information

Never fear, Google is up to “doing no evil” and protecting the privacy of searchers and their search queries.

Today Google announced that they were adopting new privacy measures that would protect users by providing anonymity about the vast amounts of information they collect from searchers around the world.

By doing this, they retain the information about users and agencies like the government, another company or a third party will have more difficulties in obtaining it from Google.

Privacy advocates are pumped by the news.

“This is an extremely positive development,” said Ari Schwartz, deputy director of the Center for Democracy and Technology. “It’s the type of thing we have been advocating for a number of years.”

This move could help to increase trust in the very lucrative search engine business.

How concerned are you about your privacy on the internet?
