Ebay Acquires Stumbleupon For 75 Million

May 31, 2007 – 8:58 am

Today Ebay announced that they have acquired Stumbleupon, a software company that runs an opt in toolbar that suggests websites based on user preferences.

The company was founded by 3 programmers in Calgary in 2001 and was financed with Venture Capital.

The Stumbleupon toolbar costs nothing for web surfers to run.

Michael Buhr, senior director at San Jose-based eBay, will serve as general manager of StumbleUpon. StumbleUpons founders and managers will become eBay employees.

“StumbleUpon is a great fit within our goal of pioneering new communities based on commerce and sustained by trust,” Buhr said.

Do you use Stumbleupon or another type of toolbar to enhance your internet experience?
