Google Bringing More Streetviews To Google Maps

August 13, 2007 – 1:02 pm

Google recently announced that they are adding the city of Houston to their roster of Streetviews. This new feature at Google Maps allows web visitors to take a look at pictures that were snapped by cars and vans equipped with Google cameras as they drove down local streets.

Of course, this new service is another questionable practice as far as privacy is concerned. If you happen to be in the area (and the lens) of the camera, your image will proudly be displayed to anyone that “zooms in” for a streetview. Google, of course, has tools to report photos that are “inappropriate” and I’m certain they’ll remove them, if the concern is founded.

What are your thoughts on Streetview? Do you feel this is an invasion of privacy or a sign of things to come?
