Google Launches Universal Search

May 16, 2007 – 7:42 pm

In the coming days don’t be surprised if your Google query brings unfamiliar looking search results. Google just announced that they’ve done a significant update to their search engine and will start integrating videos from Youtube, photos, books and other services.

Come to find out Google has been laying the groundwork for this upgrade for the last two years. Google spent 1.9 billion in capital expenditures last year and is building more data centers.

“Our goal is not to have people spend more time on Google,” Sergey Brin said Wednesday. “It’s for people to accomplish more on Google.”

“Accomplishing more” on Google could significantly boost revenues for them. Clicks on contextual advertising on Google’s website means they get to retain 100% of the click instead of sharing the revenue with a second party publisher.

I went to Google to have a looksee, but everything looked the same to me.. for now..

What are your thoughts on Google’s Universal Search?
