Google Testifies On DoubleClick Acquisition
September 27, 2007 – 3:48 pmToday is the day for Google to face the United States Senate concerning the purchase of the online advertising company, DoubleClick. This “merger” has been brought under question by groups that are concerned with user privacy and anti-trust issues.
David Drummond, the Senior VP for Corporate Development and Chief Legal Officer, is set to take Capitol Hill to testify before the Senate Judiciary Committee today to discuss the current online advertising industry, privacy issues and anti-trust concerns.
Mr. Drummond stresses that user privacy is very important to them.
“Google’s bottom line is this: We believe deeply in protecting online users’ privacy, and we have a strong track record of doing so. We are constantly working to innovate in our privacy practices and policies. Some have asked questions about privacy protections in connection with the DoubleClick acquisition, but for us privacy does not begin or end with our purchase of DoubleClick. Privacy is a user interest that we’ve been protecting since our inception.”
No word on when a decision will be made to give the green light for the deal, but I imagine it won’t be long before the Senate comes to a conclusion.
