How Good Is Your Content?

July 12, 2007 – 9:38 am

This is a tough question to ask to many internet marketers, but it is one worth looking at. There’s very little you can control when it comes to web marketing, and your website’s quality is one of the key features. If your content sucks, you can’t really expect anyone to get excited about your site, and the chances are good that they’ll click their back button and never return again.

In essence, here’s some obvious indicators that you’re offering top quality content:

  • Visitors come back to your website from bookmarks
  • You’ll see links from forums and blogs that you don’t solicit - it means people are actually talking about your website without being prodded.
  • A large percentage of your website visitors come directly to the website and refer others there

If you find you’re struggling in some of these areas, it might be worth taking a step back and checking out what might have gone wrong. Try to be objective, even if it’s tough for you. Undoubtedly part of your website might be geared to selling ads or products, but if the overwhelming message of your site is commercial, it might be worth lightening up the sales text a bit and offering more quality text for your visitors.

In the end, you probably know just how good the content is if you’re really being open and honest.
