Internet Advertising Will Soon Surpass Traditional Newspapers
August 9, 2007 – 7:10 amA recent study found that online advertising is expected to surpass traditional newspaper advertising by the year 2011.
“We are in the midst of a major shift in the media landscape that is being fueled by changes in technology, end-user behaviors, and the response by brand marketers and communications companies,” said James Rutherfurd, EVP and Managing Director at private equity firm Veronis Suhler Stevenson, in a statement. “We expect these shifts to continue over the next five years, as time and place shifting accelerate while consumers and businesses utilize more digital media alternatives, strengthening the new media pull model at the expense of the traditional media push model.”
Rutherford says that he feels that companies will increase the amount of money that goes into advertising budgets, but more of this money will be funneled into online ads and less will be spent in print newspapers.
What are the largest advertising growth segments over the next five years? Internet and mobile services, branded entertainment, out-of-home media, outsourced custom publishing, and public relations, according to him.
How often do you read a traditional newspaper? Do you shop based on ads that are published?
