Microsoft Buys 4% Stake In Careerbuilder.com
May 9, 2007 – 4:39 pmMicrosoft has been going long on internet properties. Today the world’s largest software maker announced that they were buying a 4% stake in the internet job search portal, Careerbuilder.com.
Careerbuilder is owned by Gannett Co. Inc. and Tribune Company, which are both newspaper publishers. They each share a 40.8% stake in the company. McClatchy’s equity is at 14.4%.
Under the terms of the agreement Careerbuilder will extend their partnership with the MSN Careers channel through 2013. Under the agreement, it will pay MSN up to $443 million over the course of seven years for placement as the exclusive job search engine on MSN Careers.
Microsoft recently announced that they were in talks to acquire Yahoo! as well.
