My Adsense Ads Went Blank - What Happened?

February 27, 2007 – 4:40 pm

Bad news. If your Google Adsense ads suddenly just show nothing, or a box where the ads should be, chances are your website has been banned. This has happened to a few of my websites, and there’s never any reason offered by Google. Personally, I consider this to be a horrendously unprofessional way to do business, but that’s hardly news when you’re dealing with Google.

Possible symptoms of a site-wide ban (as opposed to an account suspension):

1) You show nothing but PSAs (could also be a targeting issue)
2) You have a big empty box, where your ads used to be.
3) You see nothing at all where the ads used to be

How to confirm your site has been banned.

Here’s an easy way to determine if your site has been banned. Install a Google Adsense for Search box and enter a query. If the site is banned, you’ll receive a message that the site “has violated terms of service of Google”. Of course, the ban reason will never be explained to you or anyone.

I have no idea if you can get your site back in Google. Insulted by their behavior, I merely pulled the code and went with YPN. This has now happened 4 times. Be wary of placing all of your eggs in the Adsense basket for this and other reasons.
