MySpace Blocks Some Of Photobucket’s Content

April 11, 2007 – 5:30 pm

Myspace.com recently announced that they have blocked slideshows and videos from Photobucket
because Photobucket is encouraging users to incorporate an ad-supported slideshow into their MySpace personal profile pages.

The block, which began Tuesday, led Photobucket Chief Executive Alex Welch to accuse MySpace of limiting free expression and treating users as a commodity.

“They’ve always been about self-expression, and now they are cutting users off from doing that,” Welch said.

In a statement Myspace encourages users to upload content from third party providers, as long as it doesn’t violate their terms of service. The slideshows in violation are advertising the new Spider-Man movie.

Do you agree with Myspace’s decision to block content from a third party?
