Network Solutions Named In Lawsuit

April 7, 2008 – 5:13 pm

Recently a class action lawsuit was filed in California against domain registrant, Network Solutions.

The lawsuit alleges that the company registers a domain shorty after a person searches for it and then charges the consumer to buy the domain back from them.

This practice is what’s called “front running.”

Network Solutions admits to registering domains shortly after a search, but say the practice is to protect consumers from other companies that might register the domain and keep it locked up. Network Solutions releases the domain name in four days.

The company declined to comment on the lawsuit.
