Yahoo Earnings

Yahoo announced earnings today and although the company didn’t upset with earnings, they didn’t impress, either.

They reported revenues being up 14% at 1.35 billion. They reported that their US based traffic was up 19% but international business declined by 11%.

CEO Jerry Yang spoke very upbeat, saying that he believes the company can significantly increase revenue and double cash flow. Whether this is just talk or something can be achieved is yet to be seen.

Microsoft is still talking “takeover” but as of yet, there is no agreement between the two companies.

Gaylord Nelson – Creator Of ‘Earth Day’

If you’re busy celebrating Earth Day and you are curious about the history of it, here’s a little background on it.

Earth Day was created by Gaylord Nelson, a Wisconsin Senator in 1962. Mr. Nelson wanted to create awareness about our environment in a time when these concerns weren’t a focus in the political arena.

Despite presenting his thoughts and ideas, his “Earth Day” didn’t immediately take off. A grass roots movement in 1970 brought this day into the collective of Americans. Mr. Nelson said:

“Our goal is an environment of decency, quality, and mutual respect for all other human creatures and for all living creatures. The battle to restore a proper relationship between man and his environment, between man and other living creatures will require a long, sustained, political, moral, ethical, and financial commitment — far beyond any effort made before.”

All these years later Gaylord Nelson’s vision brings communities, countries and people together for a single minded purpose – to make our environment a better place for today, tomorrow and decades to come.

Longest MLB Game

Last night was the longest MLB game in 15 years. It took an amazing 6 hours and 16 minutes for the Colorado Rockies to beat the San Diego Padres in an abysmal 2-1 game.

It took a long 22 innings to get through the Major League Baseball game that finally ended at 1:21 AM.

Troy Tulowitzki nailed the win with an RBI double that San Diego couldn’t match.

They broke the 1993 record held by the Cleveland Indians and Minnesota. Minnesota won after 22 innings in a 5-4 game.

That makes for a long night at the ballpark..

Network Solutions Named In Lawsuit

Recently a class action lawsuit was filed in California against domain registrant, Network Solutions.

The lawsuit alleges that the company registers a domain shorty after a person searches for it and then charges the consumer to buy the domain back from them.

This practice is what’s called “front running.”

Network Solutions admits to registering domains shortly after a search, but say the practice is to protect consumers from other companies that might register the domain and keep it locked up. Network Solutions releases the domain name in four days.

The company declined to comment on the lawsuit.

MLK had a vision – and from that vision made many quotable quotes. Here are a few MLK quotes to honor this man four decades later.

  • “A nation or civilization that continues to produce soft-minded men purchases its own spiritual death on the installment plan.”

  • “All labor that uplifts humanity has dignity and importance and should be undertaken with painstaking excellence.”
