Publicity As A Means Of Promoting Website

January 21, 2008 – 6:57 pm

One of the classic ways companies do websites promotions is an indirect method. They try and focus on a newsworthy aspect of the website, and they take out press releases and contact the media for free publicity. This seems to be the preferred way, in fact, for many startups. The advantages over using an advertising budget seem numerous.

When publicity gets out there and mainstream media picks it up, it introduces people to your website in a “referral” manner, which is much more powerful than advertising. When a trusted source “turns you on” to something new and exciting, you tend to look at it in a better light than if you discovered it through an ad.

Plus, a ton of the publicity you generate will occur online. This means lots of direct links that carry actual targeted traffic. This is the best effect you can hope for. When other websites promote your website, the effect can be tremendous.

If you’re a fan of targeted traffic, you need to see what publicity can do for your website promotions. It’s the gift that keeps on giving.
