Reasons Why Links Are Still Important
March 19, 2007 – 4:32 pmLinks are still the lifeblood of the internet and should be an important part of your internet strategy when building a website.
Why are links important?
* Links from other websites can provide visitors to your website. A link from a related or themed website can can pre-qualify them as someone that is interested in your product, service or informational website. A close match can mean better conversion rates for you.
* Having a number of links from websites that are already indexed in the major search engines can help bring in spiders (also known as webcrawlers) to index your website. Although there are no guarantees for ranking, the webcrawlers will help organize your websites information in their search indexes at some point in time.
* Word of mouth marketing works. Whenever you get a link from another website it’s like getting a personal referral from the site that linked to you. The more personal referrals you get, the better.
There are many ways to get links. You can submit your website to directories, exchange links with other webmasters or submit your articles to social networking websites like Digg, Thumbd.net or Sootle.com.
I hope that this helps explain why links are still important and gave you enough resources to get your link building campaign started!

Hi Heather! Nice post! I’m just new to Digg (i was very indifferent toward it before. lol), but this other blog that I’ve been submitting articles from was banned. And i don’t know why.
I really wish it’s easier to get links from other sites. I have several websites at work that need to rank asap. haha

I like your comparison about links and personal referrals. It is the way this link building system works! Thanks for an interesting post.

Hi Heather!
Digg is okay. But to tell you the truth, I haven’t completely grasped its true essence, and I don’t totally get what it’s for yet. LOL.

I suppose it’s to share topical news and things of that sort. I’ve used it sparingly myself.
