San Francisco’s Free Wi-Fi Project May Come To An End
August 7, 2007 – 8:17 amBad news for any of you readers that were enamored with the free wi-fi services in San Francisco.
Construction and access on the wi-fi highway could be coming to a quick end. The city of San Francisco put off a vote to sign an agreement with Earthlink, the wireless network builder as they tried to come to an agreement about contract terms. The city is concerned not only with health risks that the network might cause but how providing free wi-fi to the community might affect them.
This network was planned to be subsidized with advertising dollars from the search engine, Google.
To get an idea of whether or not this network is wanted and needed, it will go up for a vote in November to decide whether to toss it or to keep it.
What are your thoughts on free citywide wi-fi access in San Francisco? Is it a selling point for you?
