Warner Signs On With Two Companies To Distribute Mobile Content
February 14, 2007 – 9:35 amWarner recently announced that they have signed agreements with Egypt’s Orascom Telecom and Norwegian telecom group Telenor.

The deal with Orascom will give Warner the right to provide mobile products such as ringtones and full track downloads in countries including Algeria, Bangladesh, Italy, Pakistan, Tunisia and Egypt.
The agreeement with Telenor will give them rights to distribute content through nine of Telenor’s 13 mobile operators, giving consumers in Sweden, Norway and other markets another choice for mobile content.
“(Orascom’s) scale, ambition and commitment to promoting legitimate, pan-regional mobile music services make them the ideal partner for us as we develop our presence in the Middle East and North Africa,”Warner Chairman and CEO, Edgar Bronfman Jr, said in a statement.
Alex Zubillaga, Executive Vice President of Digital Strategy at Warner, said the sheer scale and reach of Telenor’s mobile network would take Warner’s ability to deliver mobile content to a “whole new level”.
“This agreement highlights our commitment to responding to regional variations in the ways consumers access music and to developing digital music opportunities around the world,” he said.
It seems that many companies are now negotiating deals and firing up new ways to provide their own content for users and they aren’t leaving it up to users to generate it.. they are looking for consumers to buy, not participate.
I’m sure the addition of all these extra markets will prove fruitful for Warner, otherwise they wouldn’t have bothered.
Do you spend a significant amount of money on mobile content? If so what type of content is most important to you?

Good news! Orascom & Telenor both have high market shares in Pakistan. Such operator level content collaborations would also help reduce piracy as well.
Looking forward to actual applications soon.
