Today yahoo launched their enhanced search engine that will give a helping hand to the weary surfer that might need some help finding more information on a subject.
One of the new features is a drop down menu that can give you other related search queries that you might be interested in. (This was merely improved upon, as I remember having a drop down menu when I searched before.) The searcher also has the ability to turn this feature on/off depending on their preferences.
In a posting on a Yahoo company blog, company executive Tim Mayer said the new search enhancements are designed to only lend extra assistance to users when they ask for it, which he said should distinguish Yahoo search from other services that offer help automatically, whether it is wanted or not.
Other new functions include the integration of multimedia results such as video, audio and photos, including pictures from Yahoo’s Flickr photo-sharing site. The combination of such media, along with basic Web links and information, is known in the search industry as “universal search.”
Yahoo’s move is in line with other search engine companies that are trying to integrate their search to accommodate visitors and provide them with the best results available.
