Yahoo’s New Mobile Interface Worse Than The Last

August 6, 2007 – 12:52 pm

I have a PDA that I’ll use to do very limited web browsing, mainly because so many websites aren’t mobile friendly. I’ve always had my start page set to Yahoo, but I’m thinking of switching to Google mobile because Yahoo’s new mobile version is so bad.

Here are the reasons I think that Yahoo’s mobile interface is worse than the prior version:

News Layout. Before they made changes, you could select News and get a number of different news headlines to choose from. Now it features “Bill Pay” and a couple of other links before presenting you with “Top Stories” and then categorized news. Many times when I go to access the news after clicking through, Yahoo is unable to access the news source for some reason.

Email Interface. The new Email interface doesn’t present you with the option to delete mail, so even if you know you don’t want to read something, you still have to click on the mail in order to get rid of it.

I haven’t used much of their “One Search” feature because most days I’m not really searching for any one thing via their mobile search engine. I just like reading the news and checking my Yahoo mail every once and again. It’s too bad there’s no way to get the old Yahoo mobile interface back.. I liked that one much better.

What are your thoughts on mobile websites? What mobile sites do you use frequently?
